Marvel's Wonder Man Trailer Unveils The MCU's Most Self-Referential TV Show To Date

The Marvel studio is aware that audiences might be feeling some superhero fatigue, so they've opted to incorporate that very idea into their next superhero show.

That's right, the debut trailer for Wonder Man has been released, and it promises a meta twist on the MCU.

The preview, which premiered on Oct. 10, also subtly moved the Wonder Man release date back from its initial late 2025 slot into January 2026.

Why another superhero movie? Everyone is tired of superheroes. Why go see them in the theater? Wonder Man resonated with me on a profound level. There is an chance to shock viewers. To reimagine the entire category of narrative.

The reporter replies: "Have you given any thought about the cast?"

The preview then transitions to series star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the interview on his mobile device, and the trailer ends.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a self-referential interpretation on the MCU. The series stars Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a film star who transforms into a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).

The supporting cast includes actor Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed coming back as DODC officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Approach

We don't know much else about the plot of Wonder Man, but it's evident that the studio intends to laugh at its own tropes.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the production company is fully committed on self-referential comedy. Will this approach succeed without the celebrity appeal of its previous leads? Only time will tell.
